Piping 1
Module Objectives
- Gain familiarity with playing the practice chanter and reach a stage where a simple tune can be played, with good finger technique.
- Understand the nature of practice and how to optimise practice and learning.
- Understand the basic concepts behind the chanter tone, written music, common rhythms and playing to a beat.
Skills
- Identify and play each of the 9 bagpipe notes
- Change between notes without crossing noises
- Play a G gracenote on the beat and change notes with a G gracenote
- Identify, tap out and play an even rhythm and a dot-cut rhythm
- Demonstrate an effective practice strategy
- Play to a metronome and your beating foot
- Break a tune into smaller phrases and learn each phrase
- Play a tune with even blowing, note durations and clean fingering
Progression
At the end of this module you will be asked to perform a simple tune to your tuition group.
Duration
There is no set duration. This module can be done at your own pace but generally takes from 8 to 12 weeks.
