The City of Melbourne Highland Pipe Band is one of the largest pipe bands in Australia, with in excess of thirty pipers and twenty drummers. As well as taking part in wide range of corporate and community events, the band is strongly competitive, currently fielding two contest bands - in grades three and four. Our members range in age from ten to seventy years, and represent an extremely broad cross section of the community. About half the band are women.
New members at all levels are always welcome, from complete beginners to expert players. Tuition is provided.
The band is centrally located in the City of Melbourne, offering easy car and public transport access.
Practice is held on most Thursday nights, from 7:30PM to about 10PM in the old Army Medical Corps Hall at 239 A'Beckett St Melbourne. The hall is on the corner of A'Beckett and William Sts , opposite the Flagstaff Gardens. Entry is from A'Beckett Street (using the door at the eastern end of the building - middle of the picture below).
Before major competitions, some additional practices are held on Mondays or Tuesdays at the same location or in nearby Flagstaff Gardens.
Our practice venue is handy to Flagstaff Railway Station (5 mins walk) and William Street and Latrobe Street trams. Parking is available in A'Beckett Street and William Street.
